artists reachiong out through art

The Rio Rancho Art Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of lives through the arts. RRAA's mission is the cultural and educational enrichment of the community. By providing opportunities for artists of all media and the public to collectively participate in fine art events, our aim is to establish Rio Rancho and Sandoval County as a vital element in the cultural community of New Mexico.

OUR FOUNDER
Our founder Delma Petrullo was not only an artist, but a city councilor for District 3 in the City of Rio Rancho. She passed away on June 3rd, 2009 after a loosing to a 15 month battle of esophageal cancer.

Delma was a professional artist since 1975; a multi award wining oil painter who originally hailed from New York. There, she sold and exhibited in galleries and shows throughout the metropolitan area. She and her husband, Robert Petrullo, moved to New Mexico 11 1/2 years ago. The landscape and light of the southwest provided a level of inspiration to her art that she had not experienced before. Delma loved the southwest landscape and even more so, the city of Rio Rancho.

This body of work executed by the late Delma Petrullo has never been seen by the public before. She was very excited about being able to exhibit this body of work as the subject matter was something that was very dear to her heart. Before her passing, she had asked a close friend if she would see to it that the show got hung. Delma was never one to leave things undone.

You can read about it on the attached PDF.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS
RRAA volunteers work with other organizations to help them raise funds and increase services. This is done through  donations of original art,  joint program sponsorship or other creative means. A major  part of our outreach is member artists teaching children.  Some of these organizations are:  A New Day, Rio Rancho Public Schools, Albuquerque Public School System Foundation, Namaste, Coronado State Monument Foundation, the Rio Rancho Community Foundation, and the Rio Rancho Library System.

ART EDUCATION AID PROGRAM
This program is the financial arm of our outreach program, designed to aid the arts through scholarship and other means.

VENUES. EXHIBITIONS AND OTHER SERVICES FOR ARTISTS

RRAA provides a variety of rotational and special venues for artists, as well as promoting their art, art shows or classes they offer.

MONTHLY ART RELATED PROGRAMS
Each monthly meeting includes an art related  presentation.  Past programs have included critiques, marketing art, demonstrations,  and copyright law.

STUDIO TOUR
The highlight of the year is the annual Rio Rancho Studio tour where member artists throughout Rio Rancho open their studios to promote art and the city.
